Synopsis

After he transmigrated, Ye Shuo became the Ninth Prince of the Great Zhou Dynasty.
His mother was the most favoured Imperial Concubine, and his grandfather was the Duke Zhen who had massive troops under him; his birth immediately made him one of the three most popular candidates in fighting for the throne, even overshadowing the Crown Prince.
The most important thing was, even his mother shared the same desires in competing for the throne.
A favoured concubine + Military power + an Emperor in the prime of his life; at first glance, this kind of arrangement already meant its upcoming doom was near. Not only that, he still had eight more elder brothers above him filled with ambitions.
Eight older brothers, and each one of them outstanding on their own.
Ye Shuo thought about it for a while, then closed his eyes and kicked his feet; whoever wanted to ascend this throne should just do it.
So what if they became the Emperor? There wasn’t any Internet, not even electricity, as well as any games; even if he became the Emperor, the toilets still couldn’t flush on its own.
As he had no desires to fight for it, just like that, the royal Ninth Prince who was treasured like gold and jade grew up to be an infamous dandy.
They had to go to the study room before dawn? So that’s why the probability of children dying young was high; he definitely won’t go.
Being a subject first then only a person? Even if he is the Emperor, wasn’t he still his father?
At first, the Crown Prince and everyone else thought that this brother of theirs was just keeping a low profile while biding his time, only till that time when he was eight years old and still continued being carried on his father’s back to class did they finally realized, that child was done for.
In the past, the current Emperor was always threading over thin ice, carefully maintaining his position as a son for thirty years before he finally ascended the throne. After taking the throne, his sons now were just like the previous him during those years before; until the birth of the Ninth Prince, that was the first time the Emperor met a child like him.
But for some reason that even he didn’t know of, the Emperor was instead very invested in his young son; even if there were more children born after, he was still less attentive towards them than him.
More than ten years went by, conflicts started to arouse in court, feuds amongst brothers appeared, times were changing; and yet only Ye Shuo continued to remain the same.
Nobody could expect that, the new Emperor would pass away three years after he took the throne, only leaving behind his one and only child as heir. With painstaking efforts and great difficulty, Ye Shuo finally supported his brother’s only child to the throne; however, he only took away his attention for a moment and just like that, the child was gone.
The imperial clan didn’t have anyone left; and could only let this Imperial Uncle of him to inherit the throne.
During his time as the Emperor’s uncle, he was only twenty six years old.
Ye Shuo: “…”
The day of his enthronement, when they thought back of how the previous Ninth Prince and the current Ninth Imperial Uncle hadn’t even graduated from primary school; the ministers couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with grief, and almost made the Hall of Supreme Harmony overflown with tears.
Their Great Zhou Dynasty, was going to end.
Seeing how the Ninth Prince after becoming the Emperor continued with his out of sorts behaviour, everyone including the Imperial Tutor had already made preparations to be annexed by the two countries around them.
What they didn’t expect was after a year, the country was still stable.
Three years went by, the common people no longer suffered from any hunger.
After five years, natural disasters started to appear, Ye Shuo took the oppurtunity to send out troops, and then annihilated the two countries.
Looking at this unified territory before them, the courtiers couldn’t believe their eyes.
Who would’ve thought that in Ye Shuo’s previous life, he was actually a genius.

📂 System Interface: The Unwilling Sovereign

Ye Shuo transmigrates as the 9th Prince of the Great Zhou, born into a “death trap” of a position: a favored mother, a grandfather with massive military power, and eight ambitious older brothers. Recognizing that the throne is a poisoned chalice without internet or flushing toilets, he decides to become the ultimate “salted fish” (slacker), only to be dragged into power by a series of tragic successions.

Component Classification Tactical Implication
Salted Fish Persona Survival Strategy By acting as a lazy, pampered dandy, he removes the target from his back, allowing him to maintain genuine bonds with his brothers.
Modern Genius Hidden Attribute His 21st-century knowledge (logistics, social reform, technology) makes him accidentally more competent than all the “serious” candidates combined.
Imperial Uncle Arc Turning Point After his brothers and their heirs die, he becomes the only viable choice to protect the dynasty, transitioning from dandy to iron-fisted ruler.
Feminist Reform Social Engineering He uses his power to raise the status of women, eventually appointing his daughter as heir.

📂 System Interface: The Status Window (Ye Shuo)

Attribute Classification Description
Identity The “Accidental” Emperor He didn’t want the throne; the throne wanted him. He spent 20 years running from it only to rule better than anyone else.
Relationship The Beloved Brother In a rare twist, he manages to keep the affection of almost all his brothers, even as they fight each other to the death.
Core Conflict Modern Soul vs. Feudalism He struggles with the cruelty required to be an Emperor in ancient times while trying to maintain his 21st-century kindness.
Intelligence SSS-Rank A true genius who hides behind a mask of “uneducated dandyism” to avoid work and danger.

Editor's Note

💡 The "Three-Act" Structure. This novel is a long-haul journey. It starts as a hilarious slice-of-life comedy (childhood), shifts into a gut-wrenching tragedy (succession war), and ends as a high-level kingdom-building saga (reign).

Emotional Damage Warning. While the beginning is "crying from laughter," the middle is "crying from heartbreak." The author makes you love every single brother before the cold reality of imperial power tears them apart. The death of the 6th Prince and his young son is particularly devastating.

The "Underworld" Extras. The ending chapters are legendary. They feature the dead family members watching Ye Shuo’s reign from the afterlife like a reality TV show, providing much-needed closure and humor after the tragic main story.

*366 chapters of dandies, deaths, and a dynasty that refuses to collapse. Complete — and worth every tear.*

Experience Curve

Ch. 1–100 (The Dandy Prince): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Pure comedy gold. His interactions with his "Stepfather" (The Emperor) and his refusal to study are highlights.

Ch. 101–250 (The Breaking Point): ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Heart-wrenching. The "salted fish" life ends as his brothers begin to fall. The tone shifts to serious palace intrigue.

Ch. 251–366 (The Wise King): ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – High-level kingdom building. He unifies the world and modernizes the dynasty.

WebNovelDB Review

9 /10
A masterpiece of the "Reluctant Hero" trope. It is a "Premium" version of palace drama that prioritizes character depth over "face-slapping."

Character Depth: 10/10. The brothers are not villains; they are victims of their era. You will mourn the Crown Prince as much as the MC does.

Emotional Impact: 9/10. It balances high-octane comedy with soul-crushing tragedy perfectly.

World Building: 8/10. The transition from a feudal mess to a unified, modernizing empire is handled with logical (if genius-aided) progression.

Romance: 6/10. Adorable but definitely a subplot. The FL is strong but often overshadowed by the complex family dynamics.

The Good: The extras are some of the best in webnovel history. They turn a bittersweet ending into a truly "beautiful" closure.

The Bad: The translation quality in later chapters can be "MTL-ish," requiring some patience with pronouns (he/she/him/her).

For Fans Of: I Truly Am Not a Wise King!, Joy of Life, Trash of the Count's Family.

Not For You If: You want a brainless power fantasy where no one important dies.

Extras Note: DO NOT SKIP THE EXTRAS. They feature the deceased brothers watching Ye Shuo's reign from the afterlife like a reality show. They provide the closure and humor you'll desperately need after the main story's tragedies.

Verdict: Forced to Ascend the Throne after Transmigrating is a "Beautiful" tragedy disguised as a comedy. It shows that even a genius cannot stop the wheel of history, but they can at least make sure the toilets flush for the next generation. It is the gold standard for "Salted Fish" palace novels.

"He just wanted to sleep in, but he ended up making sure the whole world could sleep safely."
