Synopsis

Three Days of Happiness is a novel by Sugaru Miaki, also known as Fafoo. It’s a rewritten version of the story originally posted to 2ch. The premise of the story revolves around a shop where one can sell away the remaining years of their life, and the consequences of doing so. “I Say A Little Prayer” is a short related story which was posted along with the novel’s release. It spoils some things about the main story, but nothing major.

🕯️ System Interface: The "Nihilistic Hope" Protocol

Three Days of Happiness (originally titled Mikkakan no Koufuku) is a profound, standalone Japanese novel by Sugaru Miaki (also known as Fafoo). It is a haunting exploration of life’s value, regret, and the pursuit of meaning in the face of death.

The story follows Kusunoki, a 20-year-old man who has reached a dead end. Faced with poverty and a sense of absolute failure, he discovers a shop where people can sell their lifespan, time, or health for money. After learning his remaining 30 years are worth a measly 300,000 yen ($10,000 per year), he sells almost all of it, leaving himself with only three months to live.

Component Classification Tactical Implication
The Lifespan Shop Premise Life is priced based on "contribution to society" and "personal happiness." Low value implies a future of misery.
The Observer Mechanic Miyagi, a girl from the shop, must watch Kusunoki to ensure he doesn't commit crimes or cause trouble in his final days.
Invisible Presence Narrative Constraint Only the "seller" can see the Observer. This leads to social isolation but intense intimacy between the two leads.
Magical Realism Tone While there is a supernatural shop, the story is grounded in brutal, mundane reality and psychological depth.

📂 System Interface: The Status Window (Kusunoki)

Attribute Classification Description

Final Decision Sale of 30 days After finding meaning with Miyagi, his final 30 days become worth more than his entire 30-year life combined.
Social Status Non-entity To society, he is a "crazy person" talking to thin air; to himself, he is finally living.
