The story follows Satoru Suzuki, a lonely salaryman in the year 2138, who stays logged into the VRMMORPG Yggdrasil until the final second of its operation. Instead of being logged out, he is transported to a new, living world in the body of his avatar, Momonga, the skeletal Overlord of the Great Tomb of Nazarick.
