Synopsis

Xiao Nanfeng has a deeply held secret: he retains memories of his past life on Earth. Trained as a scholar and wise beyond his years, he leverages his understanding to free himself from captivity and embarks on the path of cultivation. His goal is to find his missing parents, ten years lost. Loyal allies will accompany him, and fierce enemies will deter him—but talented cultivator though he might be, Xiao Nanfeng’s greatest strength has always been his mind.
Original Blurb:
Beneath the vast firmament, the brilliance of an era is but a fleeting moment, a flash of fireworks that vanishes in the blink of an eye. Look down upon the land, through countless ages, and witness the rise and fall of civilizations. Immortal sects, vast empires, sanctuary and holy ground—all are but specks of dust against the backdrop of the heavens; the glory of millennia, reduced to ashes. Yet from the depths of ruin, new sparks emerge. You and I, we strive to become towering trees that would pierce through the heavens. What lies beyond the celestial dome?

Editor's Note

💡 This novel is the definition of a "Bait-and-Switch." The first 20 chapters promise a high-IQ, scholarly protagonist in a grounded world, but it quickly devolves into a classic trope-fest. It’s "comfort food" for those who love the Against the Gods style of "I found a cursed item that makes me OP," but it will frustrate readers looking for genuine intellectual battles.

Experience Curve

Ch. 1–30 (The Scholar's Escape): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Excellent hook. The MC feels smart, the stakes are personal, and the world feels fresh.
Ch. 31–150 (The Trope Avalanche): ⭐⭐ – The "smart MC" becomes a "lucky MC." Antagonists act like cartoon villains, and the scholarly themes are replaced by standard power-up loops.
Ch. 151–500 (The World Expansion): ⭐⭐⭐ – Pacing stabilizes. The author explores the broader world and the missing parents sub-plot. It’s readable but formulaic.
Ch. 501–1066 (The Repetitive Journey): ⭐⭐ – The story falls into a cycle of "New Map, New Enemies, New Cursed Treasure." The IQ of side characters hits rock bottom, and the ending feels like a standard rush to the finish line.

WebNovelDB Review

6 /10
Wayfarer starts with a 9/10 premise but settles into a mediocre 5/10 reality. It is a series of missed opportunities wrapped in a solid translation.

The Good: The initial concept of a scholar leveraging Earth’s wisdom is compelling. The translation quality on Wuxiaworld is notably high, using a sophisticated vocabulary that fits the "scholar" theme. The fights are generally short and decisive, which avoids the "10 chapters for one punch" fatigue found in other series.

The Bad: The world-building is "soft" and often nonsensical. The MC is a total "Gary Stu"—he is supposedly smart, but his success usually comes from finding "worst-of-the-worst" techniques that magically turn out to be the best. The female characters are painfully one-dimensional, often reduced to harem tropes or "maiden in distress" roles. The antagonists are the worst offenders; they have "negative IQ" and exist only to provide a blood feud for the MC to resolve.

For Fans Of: Against the Gods (ATG), Immortal Soaring Blade, The Sovereign's Ascension.

Not For You If: You want a truly intelligent MC like in Lord of the Mysteries, or if you hate "Lucky Encounter" plot armor where every curse is secretly a blessing.
