To Hell With Being a Hero! is a massive departure for Ro Yu-jin. It attempts to blend Sci-Fi, Supernatural Horror, and a "Chosen One" parody, but often trips over its own world-building.
The Good: The author remains a master of suspense and "Grit." When the action finally hits, it feels earned. The magic/tech system is unique, avoiding the generic "Blue System Screens" found in most Korean novels. It’s dark, depressive, and atmospheric—perfect for readers who want a story with actual weight and consequences.
The Bad: The pacing is glacial and the "unreliable narrator" style is taken to an extreme. The MC, Choi-woo, often feels like a raft drifting in the ocean rather than a character driving the plot. The biggest issue is the "Gatekeeping" of information; characters constantly refuse to explain anything to the MC for "prophecy reasons," which makes the first 50 chapters feel like a chore rather than an invitation.
For Fans Of: The Second Coming of Gluttony (for the author’s style), Above Your Head, The King of the Battlefield.
Not For You If: You hate "vague" world-building, you want an OP/Active protagonist from the start, or you are easily frustrated by information being withheld from the MC.
