The New Gate (LN) is a popular novel that blends Action, Adventure, Fantasy and more. Written by the author Kazanami Shinogi. 384 chapters have been translated, and translation of other chapters is in progress.

Synopsis

“THE NEW GATE”, an online game that trapped its players and turned into a death game, was now releasing the thousands of players that had been dragged into it, thanks to the efforts of Shin, one of the most powerful players. But after having defeated the last boss and freed everyone, he was swallowed up by a strange light and found himself inside the game world 500 years in the future and unable to leave.

📊 The “Limiter” Power Scale

Shin’s strength is categorized by his equipment and self-imposed mental blocks. He rarely fights at 100% because the environmental damage would be too catastrophic for the current world’s structure.

  • Average Knight: Level 30–50.
  • Legendary Hero of the Current Age: Level 150–250.
  • Shin (Base): Level 255 (The old game cap).
  • Shin (Unbound): Effectively Level 1000+ through stat multipliers and “Divine” tier equipment he crafted himself.

Editor's Note

💡 The "Overqualified" Guardian. If OMA is a speedrun, The New Gate is New Game Plus (NG+). Shin has already beaten the final boss; now he's just traveling through a world that treats his existence like a religious myth. He isn't trying to win—he's trying to find out why he was left behind.

"In a world where 1st-tier skills are legends, Shin is a man whose basic attacks are considered natural disasters."

*23 volumes of blacksmithing, noble-herding, and a god trying very hard not to break the scenery. Ongoing — and still not using 10% of his power.*

Experience Curve

Vol. 1–3 (The Reunion): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Excellent setup. Shin discovering his house and Schnee after 500 years is emotionally satisfying and very strong.

Vol. 4–10 (The Slow Burn): ⭐⭐⭐ – The pace slows down significantly. It becomes a travelogue/slice-of-life where Shin helps "nobles and grannies" while hiding his power.

Vol. 11–23 (The Lore Hunt): ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The mystery of why he was sent to the future and the search for his other "Direct Servants" picks up, offering better world-building.

WebNovelDB Review

6 /10
A polished, slow-burn epic that struggles with a 'Superman' problem: it's hard to find tension when the protagonist is a god pretending to be a peasant.

Writing & Pacing: 6/10. The translation is excellent, but the pacing is notoriously slow. The author often spends entire chapters on technical explanations of skills or mundane social interactions.

Character Interaction: 7/10. Unlike many loner MCs, Shin has a deep, 500-year history with his NPC servants. The romance with Schnee is a slow burn but is treated with more maturity than typical high-school harem tropes.

Originality: 6/10. It pioneered the "Post-Death Game Regression" genre. While it uses many tropes, the focus on blacksmithing and the mystery of the "Ley Lines" adds depth.

Logic & Realism: 5/10. Shin’s "humility" can be frustrating. He often performs low-level tasks like picking weeds, which some readers find charmingly "Slice-of-Life" and others find incredibly boring.

The Archetype: The "Retired Veteran." Perfect for fans who enjoy world-building, lore discovery, and seeing a "Legend" navigate a world that has forgotten him.

Not For You If: You want high-stakes, adrenaline-pumping battles every chapter. Shin is so powerful that most fights are over the moment he takes off his "limiters."

Pacing Note: This is a slow, deliberate read. If you need constant action or plot progression, the middle volumes will feel like a crawl. If you enjoy world-building and watching a god help old ladies, you'll be in heaven.
