Synopsis

The man forsaken by the world, the man a s*ave to money and the man known as the legendary God of War in the highly popular MMORPG Continent of Magic. With the coming of age, he decides to say goodbye, but the feeble attempt to earn a little something for his time and effort ripples into an effect none could ever have imagined.
Through a series of coincidences, his legendary avatar is sold for 3 billion won, bringing great joy to him, only to plunge him into despair at losing almost all of it to vicious loan sharks. With revelation of money through gaming, he rises from the abyss with new found resolve and steps forward into the new age of games led by the first ever Virtual Reality MMORPG, Royal Road.
This is the legend of Lee Hyun on his path to becoming Emperor with only his family’s loving heart, his boundless desire for money, his unexpected mind, his diligently forged body and the talent of hard work backing him.

Editor's Note

💡 The Grandfather of VRMMO. Written in 2007, LMS is the blueprint for almost every modern "Gaming" webnovel. It’s the ultimate story of a "Grindset" taken to the extreme. If you can forgive its age and the repetition that comes with 1,450 chapters, you’ll find the most epic war scenes ever written in the genre and a protagonist who is as hilariously miserly as he is hardworking.

"To others, a quest is a journey. To Weed, it is an unpaid internship that better pay out in gold and rare items, or someone is going to regret it."

*695 translated chapters of grinding, sculpting, and financial trauma. Complete — and the reason your favorite VRMMO novel exists.*

Experience Curve

Ch. 1–200 (The Ascent): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Peak Fiction. The discovery of mechanics, the training hall, and the founding of Morata. Impossible to put down.

Ch. 201–700 (The Golden Era): ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Epic. Great wars against the Hermes Guild and the Embinyu Order. Every volume features a monumental sculpture.

Ch. 701–1100 (The Plateau): ⭐⭐⭐ – Repetitive. The miserly jokes start to wear thin and side quests drag on. This is where many readers take a break.

Ch. 1101–1450 (The Finale): ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Payoff. The author picks up the pace to conclude the political intrigue and the final Master Quest. A satisfying end for those who persevere.

WebNovelDB Review

8 /10
A legendary grind-fest that defined a genre; epic in scale, hilarious in its greed, but occasionally bogged down by its own massive length.

Writing & Pacing: 6.5/10. The early volumes (1–20) are masterpieces of pacing. However, after volume 25, the author begins to repeat jokes and descriptions to fill the massive 58-volume count. It’s a "marathon" read that requires some skimming in the later half.

Character Interaction: 8/10. The "Weed and Seoyoon" dynamic is one of the most famous slow-burn romances in Korean literature. The addition of the 500 Geomchis adds a layer of absurd comedy that balances the dark reality of Weed’s poverty.

Originality: 10/10. You have to remember: this book started the tropes. The "Hidden Class," the "Greedy MC," the "Virtual Reality Auction"—LMS did it first. It feels "classic" because it is the original.

Action & Plot Depth: 9/10. The war scenes are unparalleled. Weed doesn't just "fight"; he leads a "Grass Porridge Army" of millions of low-level players through charisma and shared hatred of the elite guilds. The scale of the "Master Quest" is breathtaking.

The Archetype: The "Foundational Reader." If you want to see where Overgeared or Solo Leveling got their DNA, this is a must-read. It’s for people who love seeing a protagonist work 20 hours a day to achieve a goal.

Not For You If: You need constant "Character Development." Weed stays a greedy, money-obsessed jerk for a long time. If his refusal to spend a single won on anything but his sister's tuition frustrates you, this will be a hard read.

Pacing Note: This is a marathon, not a sprint. The middle volumes (around 700–1100) can feel repetitive. If you hit a wall, it's okay to skim. The finale is worth it.
