The psychological pressure of the early volumes is unmatched; when characters die in the beginning, they stay dead, making every mission feel genuinely life-threatening. The "inter-team" battles (Team China vs. Team Devil/Team Celestial) provide some of the most intense strategic moments in early Chinese fiction. However, the novel suffers from "Xuan-centric" writing. The author tries to write Xuan as a "God-level genius," but often does so by making every other character act incredibly stupid so Xuan can save the day. Additionally, the second half of the novel introduces mass resurrection and world-breaking "Genetic Locks," which many fans feel stripped away the horror and tension that made the series great. For Fans Of: Gantz, Danganronpa, The King's Avatar (for the strategic team elements), and "Infinity" style clones. Not For You If: You are a scientist (the "biology" and "physics" will cause you physical pain), you dislike mass-resurrection tropes, or you want well-developed female characters.
