Dungeon Defense (WN) is a popular novel that blends Comedy, Drama, Fantasy and more. Written by the author Yoo Heonhwa. A total of 464 chapters have been translated and the novel is complete.

Synopsis

Do you know how this world ends?

Become the hero and defeat the 72 Demon Lords. The game that was boasted as the absolute hardest strategy game, 『Dungeon Attack』.

I used to be the ‘hero’ who had accomplished everything in this game, but after answering a suspicious survey, I found myself in the game as the weakest Demon Lord, 「Dantalian」.

With only my eloquent tongue and my memories of conquest as a hero—.

In order to survive as Dantalian. I shall tear this world apart.

📂 Interface Système : WN Survival Mechanics

Dantalian in the WN relies on Information Asymmetry and Humanity.

Tactic Description Result
Alternate Ending Routes The author provides “What If” chapters showing Dantalian failing or becoming a slave. Serves as a warning of the world’s actual cruelty.
Responsibility Branding Unlike the LN’s “Authority,” WN Dantalian is obsessed with taking responsibility for those he kills. A slow erosion of his mental health.
Economic Warfare Using Lapis and the merchant guilds to bankrupt enemies rather than just out-talking them. Total control over the demonic logistics.
Emotional Dependency Building deep, flawed bonds with subordinates who actually care for him. Creates a “Supportive” rather than “Manipulative” inner circle.

Editor's Note

💡 The Descent into Tragedy. Unlike the Light Novel's "insane genius" from chapter one, the Web Novel is a slow-burn psychological breakdown. It starts as a more generic Isekai but transforms into a dark political drama where a "normal" person is forced to commit atrocities to survive. It is famous for being completed (510 chapters) and for having a much more human, albeit eventually broken, protagonist.

"I shall tear this world apart... not because I am a god, but because I am a human who refuses to die in this hell."

*510 chapters of psychological breakdown, economic warfare, and a man who becomes a monster so his friends don't have to. Complete — and emotionally devastating.*

Experience Curve

The Beginning (Survival): ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – A realistic take on a weak human using his tongue to stop adventurers from looting his dungeon. Very relatable and tense.

The Middle (Politics & War): ⭐⭐⭐ – Deep world-building and complex strategy, though some find the "Bad End" routes and the MC's occasional "dumbness" for plot convenience frustrating.

The End (The Tragedy): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – For those who want closure. It is a depressing, bittersweet conclusion that separates itself entirely from the hiatus-bound LN.

WebNovelDB Review

7 /10
A gritty, completed epic. It is less "polished" than the LN but offers a far more emotional and human journey. However, the extreme R-18 content and the "Bad Endings" make it a very heavy read.

Writing & Translation: 9/10. Shalvation’s translation is excellent. Even as a "prototype," the quality remains superior to 90% of current translations.

Character Development: 10/10. The best part of the WN. You actually watch the characters break, change, and grow insane over 500 chapters rather than starting that way.

Originality: 8/10. While the start feels generic (Truck-kun), it subverts the "Hero" trope by showing the mental cost of "winning" at any cost.

The "Grim" Factor: The WN is significantly darker in terms of sexual violence and "hentai-style" deviancy. It is not for the faint of heart.

The Archetype: The "Completionist." If you hate novels that stop halfway and want to see exactly how a Demon Lord's reign ends (even if it's sad), this is for you.

Not For You If: You are sensitive to R-18 content, rape/non-con tropes, or "Tragedy" tags. If you want the MC to "win" and have a happy harem, stop reading now.

Key Difference: LN vs. WN (Summary)
The LN is a theater play starring a high-IQ psychopath. The WN is a war documentary starring a normal man who slowly becomes a monster to protect his people.

Content Warning: Contains graphic sexual violence, non-con tropes, and extreme psychological horror. This is not a 'dark' story — it's a 'black' story. Read at your own risk.

LN vs WN Quick Guide: LN = Polished, theatrical, insane from page one, incomplete. WN = Raw, documentary-style, normal man descends into madness, complete. Choose your poison.

Key Information

Main Characters: Dantalian (A witty former shut-in who starts with his sanity intact but slowly descends into a "Tragic Madness"), Lapis Lazuli (More emotional and supportive than her LN counterpart), Laura De Farnese (The primary heroine of the WN who shares a deep, dependent, and ultimately tragic bond with the MC).
Power System: Magic & Game Knowledge. While the LN focuses on the "Choice System," the WN leans more on Dantalian's deep knowledge of the game Dungeon Attack and RPG mechanics to predict movements and manipulate the diverse demonic races.
Themes: The Psychological Burden of Murder, the "Slow Dive" into Sociopathy, Responsibility over ones actions, and the inevitability of a Tragic Ending.
