An incredibly meta take on the transmigration genre, this story is essentially a masterclass in subversion. The Extra in The Novel’s Extra is a delight in its deliberate choosing to feature its creator as not the hero, but as merely the powerless “extra” in his own story. Rereading Kim Hajin as beginning not as a swordsman, as a mage, as so many protagonists do, but as a gunman with a “luck” stat is just so refreshing in this ocean of generic mages. However, the story has a difficult time sustaining this balancing act. It eventually turns too heavy on the melodrama and misunderstanding, while the plot begins to let power creep in and rush into the ending. Nevertheless, the mere concept of this story and the fact that the author himself finds himself facing his own "living" characters make this a legendary and truly exceptional read.
