Synopsis

I am but a traveler in a foreign land, with no desire to become an immortal.
After cultivating Daoism in the deep mountains for twenty years, Master sent Song You down the mountain to witness the demons, ghosts, spirits, monsters and myriad aspects of life, to explore the famed mountains and rivers, and seek the legendary immortals. She said that was the true path of cultivation. Who would have thought, after traversing every corner of the land, the immortal I sought turned out to be myself.
Original Blurb:
In the remote wilderness, amidst the whispering winds and ancient trees, Song You, a wanderer from a foreign land, treads a path of solitude with no intention of becoming a celestial being.
For two decades, Song has immersed himself in the rigorous discipline of mountain cultivation under the guidance of his master. Unexpectedly, his master instructs him to descend from the secluded mountains and explore the world of demons, monsters, and the myriad facets of human existence. Song embarks on a journey to witness the diverse landscapes and encounter the supernatural, seeking out renowned mountains and mighty rivers rumored to be the abodes of true immortals – the epitome of authentic spiritual cultivation.
Little does Song realize that his quest will lead him far and wide, traversing the vast expanse of the land. In a surprising turn of events, he discovers that the celestial being he seeks is none other than himself.
As Song journeys through the bustling regions of the north and the serene landscapes of the south, he unravels the mysteries of his own existence. The people he meets, the challenges he faces, and the secrets he uncovers become integral parts of his transformative journey. The pursuit of enlightenment becomes an odyssey of self-discovery, and the boundaries between mortal and immortal blur.

Editor's Note

💡 If you are tired of "Young Masters," face-slapping, and the endless grind for power, this is your sanctuary. This is a "Travelogue Xianxia" that reads like a classical Chinese fairytale. The protagonist, Song You, is a transmigrator who has spent 20 years cultivating in silence. His journey isn't about becoming the strongest—it's about witnessing the world. It is slow, deeply philosophical, and incredibly relaxing. Oh, and the "Cat God," Lady Calico, is arguably the best sidekick in web novel history.

Experience Curve

Ch. 1–100 (The Wanderer’s Spirit): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The Peak. The introduction to Song You’s world-view and his first encounters with spirits and humans set a high bar for descriptive prose. The chemistry with Lady Calico is instant.

Ch. 101–400 (The Mortal Tapestry): ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The Heart. Episodic adventures where the MC solves problems not with brute force (though he is OP), but with Daoist wisdom and restraint. Each arc feels like a complete short story.

Ch. 401–720 (The Path Home): ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The Conclusion. The stakes rise naturally as the lore is revealed, but the story never loses its calm, introspective soul. The ending is widely praised for being consistent with the novel's philosophy.

WebNovelDB Review

9 /10
A masterpiece of "Slice-of-Life Xianxia" that captures the true essence of Daoism better than almost any other work. The Good: The Atmosphere. The writing is incredibly immersive and poetic (shoutout to the translator for maintaining this). It manages to make "doing nothing" feel interesting. It’s a story about perceiving the Dao through life, nature, and fleeting human connections. Lady Calico provides perfect comedic relief without breaking the zen tone. The Bad: Not for Action Junkies. If you need a fight every 5 chapters, you will be bored. There is very little "cinematic" combat; conflicts are often resolved in a few sentences or through conversation. The pace is "mountain-stream slow." For Fans Of: Mushishi (Anime/Manga), My Senior Brother is Too Steady (for the cautious/restrained MC), and readers who enjoy philosophical/scenic journeys. Not For You If: You want Harem, system-gaming, intense gore, or a protagonist who seeks to rule the world.

Key Information

Main Characters: Song You (A transmigrator Daoist. Talented, calm, and proactive in his "inaction." He seeks to understand life rather than conquer it), Lady Calico (A demon cat Calico who accompanies him. Her transformation and cat-like logic are highlights of the novel).
Power System: True Daoism: Unlike "Levels/Stages" novels, power here is tied to mental stability, perception of the natural world, and "intent." Song You is technically "Overpowered," but he exercises extreme restraint.
Themes: The ephemeral nature of human life, self-discovery, Daoist philosophy (Wu Wei / Inaction), and the beauty of the mundane.
