I Gave Up Being Stronger is a popular novel that blends Action, Comedy, Fantasy and more. Written by the author Bichu. A total of 480 chapters have been translated and the novel is complete.

Synopsis

In a past life, Cha Jin-Hyeok reigned as the Sword King of Korea. He lived for the adrenaline of conquering perilous Dungeons and vanquishing deadly monsters. Yet, when the curse of the Empress of Hell flung him back in time, he vowed to turn over a new leaf. No longer consumed by an insatiable hunger for power, he dreamt of a simple life—owning a building in Yeonhui-dong and cherishing time with his family. To make that dream a reality, he chose the life of a Streamer, a role far safer than his previous incarnation as a top-ranked Swordsman.
Streaming his adventures, Jin-Hyeok guided his party through monster-infested labyrinths and formidable Dungeons. Along the way, he encountered friends and adversaries from his previous life. Though he aimed to keep a low profile, the old habits of a one-time Sword King proved difficult to shake off.
This isn’t your typical regression tale. Instead, it chronicles the struggle of a man who was once Korea’s mightiest Player as he attempts, and occasionally fails, to embrace mediocrity. Seamlessly interweaving modern social media culture, it captures the intimate dynamic between Streamers and their audiences. The story is very fast-paced and filled with action-packed battle scenes. If you love ominous Dungeons, self-contemplation, and internet memes, this novel is just for you!

Editor's Note

💡 Don’t let the title fool you; the MC absolutely does not stop being strong. This is a "Gap Moe" comedy disguised as a regression thriller. The humor comes from the MC’s total lack of common sense—he genuinely believes he is weak while accidentally performing war crimes and breaking the game’s laws. It’s light, fast-paced, and perfect if you enjoy seeing a protagonist "fail" at being normal.

Experience Curve

Ch. 1–50 (The Hook): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Excellent setup. The transition from Sword King to Streamer is hilarious and the "Double Jeopardy" logic used against game admins is a highlight.

Ch. 51–250 (The Team Building): ⭐⭐⭐ – Becomes a bit generic. The focus shifts to gathering teammates who are often one-dimensional, but the "Gap humor" keeps it afloat.

Ch. 251–400 (The Concept Arc): ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The author finds their rhythm again. The MC develops his personal "Concept," and the interactions with other server admins become the main draw.

Ch. 401–480 (The Final Stretch): ⭐⭐ – Warning: The "dense MC" trope peaks here, becoming frustratingly repetitive. The power scaling loses its logic as the story rushes toward a conclusion that feels more like a loop than a climax.

WebNovelDB Review

7 /10
I Gave Up Being Stronger is a "junk food" regressor novel that succeeds on the strength of its humor rather than its plot depth. It’s a breath of fresh air for those tired of edgy, revenge-driven protagonists.

The Good: The MC is a "certifiably insane" adrenaline junkie trying to play it safe, which leads to fantastic comedic misunderstandings. Unlike other novels where the streaming element feels like an afterthought, here it is central to the world-building, involving inter-dimensional audiences and "Server Admins" who are constantly trying (and failing) to ban the MC for "cheating."

The Bad: The title is a complete lie; there is zero tension regarding the MC’s strength as he is protected by indestructible plot armor from chapter one. By chapter 400, the "dense MC" trope becomes a slog—everyone is in love with him or terrified of him, and he notices nothing. The world-building is thin, and the side characters often feel like props used to react to the MC's "greatness."

For Fans Of: The King of the Battlefield, Rebirth of the Thief, I’m Really Not The Demon God's Lackey (for the misunderstandings).

Not For You If: You want a serious story about a man actually trying to live a quiet life, or if you hate "Mary Sue" characters who succeed at everything by accident.
