Synopsis

Ye Xi, a young man from Shanxiu Village, scalded his face with boiling water. The wealthy family from the neighboring village, who had arranged a marriage with him since childhood, broke off the engagement overnight.
The villagers all laughed at Ye Xi. Even the young men who were once uglier than him mocked him, whispering behind his back that he would never be able to marry.
After a while, a stranger came to Shanxiu Village. This man was tall and strong, with dark skin. He only carried a tattered bundle, bought a dilapidated thatched hut at the edge of the mountain, and settled down there.
The villagers didn’t dare approach him, fearing he was engaged in shady business.
Ye Xi had encountered him at the foot of the mountain and by the river. He knew that the man not only farmed well but also hunted and fished, and didn’t engage in gambling, drinking, or other vices.
He felt that this man was a truly good and dependable man.
One day, with half his face scarred from the burn, he pushed open the man’s door and, standing at the entrance, blushed and asked, “Will you marry me?”
The man finished the rice in his bowl, lifted his eyes to gaze at him, looked intently for a long moment, and said, “Marry.”
After getting married, there were hot dishes and warm porridge on the stove at home, the torn clothes were mended as if they were new, a group of chickens and ducks were raised in the yard, there were snow-white rabbits in the cage, and the fruits and vegetables in the vegetable garden grew lushly.
Lin Jiangshan looked at his new husband and sighed in his heart: “This is the life of a human being.”
The couple farmed for food, three meals a day, lived in the mountain village, loved each other, and lived a long and steady life.
(The burns will be cured, and it’s still that beautiful little husband!)

Editor's Note

💡 The Anti-Rags-to-Riches. Most farming novels quickly pivot into the MC opening a national restaurant chain or becoming the hidden wealthiest person in the empire. Not here. Farming for Three Meals a Day is a stubborn, beautiful commitment to the "Ordinary." It stays in the mud, in the kitchen, and in the small joys of a mended sleeve. It’s a literal "slice of life" that doesn't try to be a "steak of life."

The Quiet Strength of Ye Xi. Don't let the "scars" and the "broken engagement" fool you into thinking he’s a tragic victim. Pushing open a stranger’s door and asking "Will you marry me?" takes more backbone than most cultivation MCs show in a thousand chapters. He’s diligent, practical, and remarkably grounded—a "Guardian Matriarch" in the making.

Food as a Love Language. Be warned: do not read this while hungry. The second half shifts heavily into culinary descriptions. While some might find the detailed recipes for porridge and stir-fry a bit much, I saw them as the heartbeat of the story. For a couple that has known hunger and hardship, every well-cooked meal is a victory.

"Will you marry me?"
The man finished the rice in his bowl, lifted his eyes, and said, "Marry."

94 Chapters + 5 Extras (Completed). A serene, low-conflict journey that feels like a warm blanket on a winter night.

Experience Curve

Ch. 1–30 (The Bold Proposal): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Pure Heart. The tension of the broken engagement and the awkward, sweet buildup between Ye Xi and the "scary" stranger Lin Jiangshan is the peak of the romance.

Ch. 31–75 (Building a Home): ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The Grind. This is the "true" farming. Raising chickens, ducks, and rabbits. It’s satisfying but repetitive, focusing heavily on the daily labor of survival and comfort.

Ch. 76–94 + Extras (The Family Legacy): ⭐⭐⭐ – The Dash. The pacing accelerates significantly here. We see the "buns" (children) and the payoff of their hard work, though the ending feels a bit rushed compared to the slow-burn beginning.

WebNovelDB Review

8 /10
A "slow-burn" rural romance that trades high-stakes drama for high-yield crops. It’s the literary equivalent of a Stardew Valley playthrough.

Writing Quality: 7/10. The prose is simple and clean, matching the humble setting. The translator does a great job maintaining the warmth of the original text.

Character Design: 8/10. Ye Xi is a standout—hardworking without being a martyr. Lin Jiangshan is the "Greenest Green Flag"—a silent, protective man who shows love through action (and occasionally by putting a sack over a bully's head).

World Building: 6/10. It stays strictly within the village and the mountain. There are no hidden princes or secret generals here; it’s a refreshing look at "Ger" society without the usual royal court interference.

Pacing: 5/10. Very slow until the very end, where years suddenly fly by. It might test the patience of readers looking for a traditional plot arc.

The Good: The relationship is incredibly healthy. No toxic misunderstandings, no "white lotus" rivals stealing the spotlight for 50 chapters, and no forced drama. It’s just two people against the world, making that world a little softer one meal at a time.

The Bad: The technical focus on cooking and livestock can get overwhelming. If you aren't interested in the logistics of charcoal selling or the exact way to mend a coat, you might find yourself skimming the middle chapters. Also, the "war and famine" subplot is teased but resolved so quickly it feels like a missed opportunity for depth.

For Fans Of: The Sweet Little Fulang, Transmigrated as a Ger to Farm, and Through the Farming Fields Full of Spring.

Not For You If: You want face-slapping, "hidden identity" tropes, or a protagonist who becomes the richest person in the country by chapter 50.

The Archetype: The "Resilient Fulang." Ye Xi doesn't wait to be saved; he finds a dependable partner and builds his own safety. He’s the heart of the home, proving that "beauty" is found in diligence and a warm stove.

Verdict: A worth reading pick for those who need a "healing" novel. It’s a straightforward, cheesy, and deeply comforting look at how hard work and a good partner can turn a "dilapidated hut" into a paradise.
