Become a Star is the ultimate "Feel-Good" entertainment novel. It excels at describing the artistic process—how a person can draw from past trauma or joy to deliver a world-class performance. For fans of the "Showbiz" genre, seeing the reactions of directors and co-stars to Woojin’s "god-tier" acting provides a consistent dopamine hit. The translation is clean, and the pacing in the early arcs is tight. The reason it doesn't score higher is the lack of genuine stakes. Chae Woojin suffers from being too perfect. He is instantly the most handsome man in Korea, his fans are unrealistically disciplined, and his enemies are easily defeated by evidence he conveniently prepared years in advance. The "999 past lives" hook, which is the most interesting part of the premise, eventually feels like an abandoned plot device as the author gives him "natural" talent instead. It’s a smooth, enjoyable binge, but it ultimately feels like watching a highlight reel of someone's success, without any of the behind-the-scenes struggle that makes a victory meaningful.
For Fans Of: Perfect Superstar, I’m Really a Superstar, and the "Method Acting" trope.
Not For You If: You want a realistic portrayal of the entertainment industry, relatable flaws in a protagonist, or high-tension conflict.
