Sunny lived in extreme poverty. He expected nothing good in his life. His world turns upside down when he is selected for the Nightmare Spell, becoming an 'Awakened', belonging to a selected group with mutated supernatural powers.
He is drawn into the ‘Dream Realm’ a magical world in disarray, where he is forced to fight for survival against nightmarish creatures and other ‘Awakened’ like himself. The ability he is granted comes with a deadly consequence, a special ‘Flaw’ that makes him unable to tell a lie. It is within this challenging world that encounters with other characters, such as Nephis, the enigmatic "Changing Star", and Cassie, the blind seer, are imperative to him. The struggle for freedom, cost of power, and trusting other people are some of the themes covered within this story. Shadow Slave is more than a progression fantasy story; it creates an experience like survival horror. The atmosphere is oppressive. A single mistake by a character may be fatal. They face constant moral choices.
